British Association for Cancer Research Tumour Microenvironment Meeting

Tumour growth and metastasis is critically dependent on the interaction between tumour cells and their surrounding environment. Cancers require a vascular supply, lymph drainage, immune escape, evasion from growth suppression and pro-apoptotic signals coming from their environment and an ability to move through the surrounding stroma to metastasise. Knowledge of the role of the tumour microenvironment has been developing rapidly, and therapies aimed at tumour vasculature and lymphatics, immune interactions, and stromal components are now increasingly available.
