International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering ( ISSMGE ) is a society representing Engineers Academics and Contractors all over the world that actively participate in geotechnical engineering. It is a global organization having 80 member society and over 18000 individual members. It had its origin in a conference in Harvard in 1936. It was established for the first time in leadership of Terzaghi as President and Arthur Casagrande as Secretary. Then it passed its great time expanding itself round the globe. The aim of society is the promotion of international co-operation amongst engineers and scientists for the advancement and expansion of knowledge in the field of geotechnics.
