The history of the Microscopy Society of America (MSA) can be traced back as far as 1942 when the first meeting of Electron Microscopy Society of America (EMSA) was held in Chicago. In the year 1993 EMSA was renamed as MSA when it was realized that the scope of the microscopy and microanalysis had increased a lot. This nonprofit organization was established with the aim of innovating in the field of microscopy and microanalysis in the technical as well as the application genre. The organization is currently headed by President Janet H. Woodward and President- Elect Ernest Hall. The forthcoming big and erudite conference that is going to be organized by MSA is the Microscopy & Microanalysis 2012 meeting. The Project MICRO of MSA is another big venture that has been taken up with the vision of teaching “real” science in classrooms.
