The Society of Fire Protection Engineers was established in 1950. It is a professional society of fire protection engineers. This society has more than 5000 members in the United States and abroad and over 75 regional chapters. The purpose of the Society is to promote the fire protection studies and practice of fire protection engineering and its allied fields to maintain the ethical standard among its members and to advance fire protection engineering education. The Society also supports the making and furthering of the annual Professional Engineer licensing exam in fire protection and its marking under the aegis of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. Many individuals groups and committees work for the society on various projects to promote the technology.
