Formed on 25th May, 1953 as the 3600th Air Demonstration Team, the USAF Thunderbirds is the air demonstration squad of the US Air Force (USAF). Named after the legendary mythological creature often mentioned in the North American culture, the Thunderbirds is basically run with the duty of organizing various air demonstrations, aerobatic patterns and solo flying shows across the world in USAF jet aircrafts. It has the pride of organizing almost 88 shows and demonstrations every year in different parts of the world. Headquartered in the Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, this squadron is currently being led by its Manager, CM Sgt Thomas Mical. Besides their air demonstration responsibilities, the Thunderbirds also form a part of the USAF combat force and can be readily be turned into an operational fighter unit when required.
