In this presentation, we will look at the history of fractions and fraction operations in the ancient Egyptian and classic Chinese mathematical traditions as well as modern Japanese teaching approaches. These exercises will help us define some effective ways to understand, teach, and learn fractions. The programs of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics present a variety of viewpoints. Founded in 1920, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) is the world's largest mathematics education organization throughout the United States and Canada.
