In the fall of 2020, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians, in partnership with other chapters of the American Academy of Family Physicians, will .. Read more host two virtual, American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM)-endorsed Family Medicine Certification knowledge self-assessment (KSA) group study activities, each with a different topic. This innovative program will use a robust web-based system that will allow family physician learners from across the country the opportunity to complete the KSA while engaging their peers and an expert content leader from a location of their choosing. Although live KSA group studies are a popular way of completing the required Family Medicine Certification activity, this program is innovative in developing a virtual learning session and delivering it nationwide to a large group of physician learners at the same time. This cutting-edge program will bring the issues of the selected topic directly to the physician’s home or office with guidance from a peer expert and the knowledge sharing that occurs when completing a KSA with fellow family physicians. In order to provide an ABFM-endorsed KSA group study session, the ABFM requires the use of a robust webinar system that provides physicians with the ability to fully contribute and be monitored for participation. The webinar system allows participants to pose questions to the speaker, take part in question and answer polls, and chat with fellow KSA participants. The ABFM also requires that the program administrators embed “code words” into the webinar slides to ensure that participants are paying attention throughout the duration of the program.
