The III Annual Conference of the European Commission Legal Service is set to take place at the European Commission Charlemagne building in Brussels, Belgium. registration and welcome coffee at 08:00 AM, followed by welcoming remarks from Mr. Daniel Calleja-Crespo, the Director-General of the Legal Service of the European Commission, at 09:00 AM. This will be followed by an opening speech from Mr. Koen Lenaerts, the President of the European Court of Justice of the European Union, at 09:30 AM.
The first session, titled 'The Law of Sanctions', will begin at 10:00 AM and will be moderated by Ms. Mihaela Carpus Carcea, a member of the Legal Service of the European Commission. This session features an esteemed panel including Mr. Roberto Mastroianni, a Judge of the General Court of the European Union; Mr. Dapo Akande, Chichele Professor of Public International Law at the University of Oxford and a member of the United Nations International Law Commission; Ms. Emer Finnegan, Director-General of the Legal Service of the Council of the European Union; and Mr. Martin Smolek, Director-General for Legal and Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. Attendees will then enjoy a networking lunch at 12:00 PM, which will be buffet-style, providing an opportunity for attendees to engage in discussions and networking. The afternoon will feature a keynote speech at 01:30 PM, delivered by a speaker from the European Commission, summarizing key insights and perspectives relevant to the legal landscape in Europe.
