Epilepsy Surgery Dissection Workshop

The number of potential epilepsy surgery candidates in the US is high, but barriers prevent adequate referral and surgical work-up. Specialized centers now handle most open surgical procedures, leading to a decline in training in open techniques. The Cleveland Clinic Techniques in Epilepsy Surgery course aims to provide a hands-on educational platform for experienced epilepsy neurosurgeons to interact with young neurosurgeons and junior faculty. The neurosurgical lab at Lutheran hospital will be used for demonstrating and practicing core epilepsy surgical techniques using cadaveric specimens. The course will also address strategies for developing an epilepsy surgery practice and the challenges associated with successful epilepsy surgery. Ultimately, the goal is to train the next generation of surgical leaders in epilepsy and improve care for epilepsy patients nationwide.
