Funders Forum on Sustainable Cities Driving a Community-Based Transformative Agenda for Cities

Cities continue to face challenges, but urbanization remains a significant trend. The focus on local transformation is crucial, especially as the majority of the world's population is projected to live in urban areas. Philanthropy is increasingly directed towards urban transformation, although cities are confronted with various complex threats. These challenges hinder community participation and resilience, raising doubts about grassroots approaches to transformation. The Funders' Forum on Sustainable Cities, a donors-only learning tour, aims to address these issues. It targets European and American foundations interested in areas such as arts, culture, economic development, climate justice, community safety, diversity, and inclusion. The city of Chicago, with its experience of the mortgage crisis and the "Great Recession," is a fitting location for this event.
