New Zealand, this conference aims to enhance public sector capability through events and educational programs. This year's theme, 'Leave a Legacy – Be a Transformer,' emphasizes the need for transformative practices that address the Closing the Gap initiative. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in professional development that broadens their understanding and encourages transformative practices in their interactions with First Nations communities.
The conference will feature a diverse lineup of 24 dynamic and inspiring speakers who will delve into the significance of building transformational partnerships between public services and Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and Māori communities. The discussions will center around the third Priority Reform in the Australian National Partnership Agreement on Closing the Gap, alongside the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, which have influenced outcomes in Aotearoa New Zealand for the past fifty years. The focus will be on the systemic changes necessary for governmental approaches to First Nations peoples and Māori, addressing the complexities that hinder progress despite good intentions. Attendees will hear firsthand accounts from agencies and individuals already engaged in transformation journeys, learning vital lessons about the structures, attitudes, and challenges that must be navigated to foster meaningful change. Additionally, the conference will facilitate networking opportunities, including an evening gathering on November 26, and a conference dinner on November 27 featuring guest speaker Stan Grant, a former journalist. This event promises to be an essential platform for public sector leaders to examine their operational practices and cultural blind spots, ultimately equipping them with the insights and confidence needed to work effectively with First Nations communities.
