"Armed Resistance in the Baltic states during and after the Second World War"
Military thinking was outdated in the early 20th century, but the search for new solutions began during World War I. Modern weapons were not supported by military theory, but advances in technology and the desire to avoid trench warfare led to the creation of new concepts and doctrines. Earlier military classics were reinterpreted for modern warfare.
