Corona is the fire accelerator for the death of shops, department stores and whole parts of inner cities. It has never been as clear as it is today: the urban spaces must be designed in a contemporary and future-oriented manner through a colorful mix. Inner-city retail locations and shopping centers will have to reduce their space in order to avoid long-term vacancies. Many companies have started to optimize their Click & Collect offers, to analyze existing branch networks in detail and, where it makes sense, to concentrate on new store formats with optimized areas. Drive-in variants are now also being examined. After decades of expansion by retail companies, this can be an opportunity for cities to mix more uses with living, commerce and culture!
