Trends in Metabolomics

The next logical step in metabolomics is to link metabolite pool measurements with metabolic fluxes and gene regulation, to fully cover the dynamics of living systems. Beside the causal analysis of living systems, metabolomics is ideally suited to search for novel biomarkers in disease detection or in monitoring the success of pharmacological intervention. Further aspects of metabolomics range from biotechnology to environmental sensing to food quality applications.
