In March 2016, North Jersey District Water Supply Commission (NJDWSC) put a Design/Build project out to bid for the upgrades to the existing .. Read more Clarifier System in Basins 5 and 6 of their facility. The existing tube settler system had never work efficiently since they were installed. The Team of Stone Hill Contracting and HDR Engineering working closely with the NJDWSC staff to optimize the project to meet the needs and desires of the commission. It was determined early on that the hydraulics throughout the facility would need to refined in an effort to ensure that there would be no detrimental effects to the upstream or downstream process, as well as to work efficiently with basins 1-4, which were configured differently than the basin 5 & 6 clarifiers. Touching on the challenges as well as the overall success of the project, the project team will present: The hydraulic challenges and how they were overcome; How to overcome a survey datum problem mid-project; Working with the process equipment vendors to reach a mutually acceptable; outcome for all stakeholders; Why it was a benefit.
