Topology optimization can be a solution to this issue, because you only have to draw a geometry in which the optimal geometry should fit. Although there are still constraints and objectives, very little is assumed about the geometry.Topology optimization always involves the use of gradient-based optimization, which can be performed automatically using the COMSOL Multiphysics® software. These optimization problems often have to be regularized, and this process is fully supported through the Density Model tool in the Optimization Module.
