In light of uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Atlantic Theological Conference which was to have taken place in Halifax, Nova Scotia from June 24th - 27th has been postponed until June 2021. The Conference title will remain the same, Burning Churches and Sacred Spaces, and will explore the reasons why we set aside places of worship, why we love them, take trouble over their beauty and lament their loss. We will be bearing in mind the great outcry when Notre Dame .. continue reading Cathedral burned, and locally in Halifax the recollection of the fire at St. George's Round Church in 1994. As more and more small churches in rural areas face dissolution or the threat of dissolution, we will also consider what this loss might mean to communities and their people. In light of the Coronavirus pandemic, we will reflect on the impact this may have on the continued existence of such places of worship. It is our hope that many or most of our speakers will be able to be with us in 2021.
