In winter we also expect to see an annual increase in death known as excess winter mortality (due to respiratory, circulatory and dementia). Yet, in the UK there remains a reluctance to talk about the taboo topic of death, especially in the workplace. And COVID-19 has presented additional challenges to the grieving process, and funeral and burial arrangements for loved ones. Now is the time for employers to meet the challenge, talk about death in a meaningful way and consider the impact that tens of thousands of deaths linked to COVID-19 will have on the workplace.
