The new Government have committed to delivering the biggest change in building safety for generations. In January 2020, a new Building Safety Regulator was added to the Health and Safety Executive, phase 1 of the Grenfell Inquiry was published, and it was announced that building owners who had not taken action to ensure building safety would be named. In addition, in March 2020, the Government announced £1bn Building Safety Fund for all forms of cladding removal, including timber, high-pressure laminate and other cladding materials with a Euroclass fire rating of or below. With the additional announcement of the new Fire Safety Bill in the Queen Speech in December 2019, there is now a renewed pressure on social housing to comply with regulations and ensure their buildings are safe.
