Athens is known for developing the world's first democracy, ruling a Greek empire, and fostering a significant cultural revolution. Modern historians link Athens' cultural dominance to democracy and the empire, but there is a possibility that these phenomena were influenced by preexisting causes. The historian specializes in Greece's history during the fifth and sixth centuries B.C., with a focus on Athenian politics, imperialism, and the research of Perikles, Kimon, Herodotus, and Thucydides. They also have interests in the later Roman empire, ancient warfare, and the classical tradition.
