It is obvious that this is a data-driven asset management issue: The nodes form the interface between the transport process and equipment process. The purpose of the latter is to supply physical trainsets to the transport process, to absorb the return flow and to prepare the trains for new deployment (cleaning, technical inspection, repairs) and to set up. If trainsets have to be treated in a condition-controlled manner, for example on the basis of sensor information, then this is only possible if the logistics are dynamic enough to respond to this. And that is exactly what Bob is working on with his team. In addition, the rail infrastructure is also an asset, not of NS, but of the state and managed by ProRail. The use of this is maximized with the approach of NS R&D Knooppunt-Logistiek. In addition, objective methods are being developed to determine the logistical capacity of these nodes for, among other things, investment decisions.
