On 16 September 2020, the Leibniz ScienceCampus “Eastern Europe – Global Area” (EEGA) organised a small-scale event in place of the 2nd Regional Conference of the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies (BASEES) on “Globalising Eastern Europe – New Perspectives on Transregional Entanglements”, originally planned for September 2020 in Leipzig. The two-part panel discussion (45 minutes each) focused on topical issues that have emerged in this turbulent year, and which will shape our work as researchers in the foreseeable future, namely 1) Research questions that arise because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and 2) Impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on practicalities of empirical research. Following the first successful Regional Conference in Uppsala, Sweden, the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies (BASEES) organises its second Regional Conference in cooperation with the Leibniz ScienceCampus “Eastern Europe – Global Area” (EEGA) in April 2021. Under the theme “Globalising Eastern Europe – New Perspectives on Transregional Entanglements”, we seek to stimulate and discuss research on these border-crossing encounters in a comparative perspective online. In thematic panels international junior and senior scholars present their research on Eastern Europe, an area spanning from Poland in the West to Russia in the East, to the Balkans and the Caucasus in the South, in its global and transregional entanglements.
