The production of cement is widely recognised as the third most damaging polluter after power-generation and transport, contributing some 8% of the world’s CO2 emissions. The discovery of making concrete without using cement (OPC) has been a “game-changer” for the industry, particularly as the properties of the finished concrete element is more durable and lighter in colour, than the OPC-based concrete that it replaces.
