Read more crime rates are in decline with total police recorded crime decreasing by 4% in England and Wales in the 12 months ending June 2020 to approximately 5.8 million offences. Crime levels from April to June 2020 were much lower than in April to June 2019 with 19% less crime due to the Covid-19 lockdown. Knife crime is at its highest recorded level in the past 10 years, with 46,000 offences involving a knife or sharp instrument in England and Wales in the year ending March 2020. The government has now announced a £15.8 billion package for 2021-2022 to build back safer and cut crime.
