This event will focus on maximizing the opportunities of implementing a just transition to an emissions-free future to enhance wealth and job .. Read more creation for left-behind and peripheral communities whilst also fundamentally restoring the natural environment. Scotland’s transition to net-zero cannot be a repeat of the process of deindustrialization throughout the 1970s, 80s and 90s which caused immense damage to the social fabric of the country and adversely affected the outlook for many individuals and their communities. In learning the lessons of the past, we must implement a just transition to become a fairer, more equitable and prosperous nation with the wellbeing of people and planet at the heart of it. As the culmination of our Climate Emergency series in the run-up to COP26 and serving as a lynchpin for all the previous themes discussed throughout, this event will focus on maximizing the opportunities of implementing a just transition to an emissions-free future to enhance wealth and job creation for left-behind and peripheral communities whilst also fundamentally restoring the natural environment.
