Dietary fiber (DF) is a factorin all diets, and its perceived health benefits are universally accepted.
The purpose of this presentation is to explain that before DF functions ashypothesized to prevent diseases/disorders or confer “beneficial physiologicaleffects on human health” (FDA, 2014),it first provides and contributes tonecessary and essential intestinal functions. This presentation focusesexclusively on DF as a nutrient,an essential nutrient.

1. What is the function of DF in the intestine at average intake levels?
2. What is an optimal beneficial daily level of DF intake?
3. How do these intestinal functions and increased level of intake improve health?

The author wishes to have a conversation to discuss the theme and objecives ofthis presentation.
