The university is the first and oldest of the three government-sponsored institutions of higher learning in the United Arab Emirates. They started with four colleges and now have nine faculties. Strength of the college is 13000 students and over 1000 staff members and describes itself as the premier research University of UAE. Through a research-focused student-centred educational experience the university aims to develop the intellectual practical creative and leadership abilities of the men and women of the nation while enhancing the cultural social and economic growth of UAE.
