Dr. Annis Fung Lai-chu is an Assosiate Professor in the Department of Applied Social Studies, mainly teaching social work and counselling courses. She won the 2009 Teaching Excellence Award from City University of Hong Kong, and in 2008, received a research award entitled, Outstanding Project Award, from the Quality Education Fund (QEF) of the Education Bureau. QEF selected 20 outstanding projects from the more than 7,000 funded from 1998 to 2008. Dr. Fung secured a five-year project, Project C.A.R.E. (Children and Adolescents at Risk Education from QEF. It has been funded three times from September 2006 to August 2011 for a total of $11 million. This pioneer research project addresses youth aggression and peer victimization of school bullying in Hong Kong. Publications based on this project have appeared in top ISI international journals. In 2010, Dr. Fung received the 60th Anniversary Distinguished Alumni Award from the Department of Social Work and Social Administration at The University of Hong Kong. She was honoured for her outstanding contributions to social work research and education.

Dr. Yukio Yoneda is a Professor Emeritus in Kanazawa University, where he worked as a Chairman Professor of Pharmacology from 1999 to 2015. He has been teaching Pharmacology in Osaka University after the retirement from Kanazawa University in 2015, while in 2018 he founded the Institute of Prophylactic Pharmacology to enlighten the significance of prophylaxis rather than therapy for people suffering from particular symptoms with dysfunctions and disabilities. He is still serving as an Associate Editor in several international reputed journals, in addition to playing a role as the Editorial Board in other international reputative journals. He has published more than 350 research papers in reputed journals. His research interests have been lying on pharmacological profiling of amino acid signaling in neuronal and non-neuronal cells using molecular biological techniques. As a return of laboratory experimental results to the community, he has made several dietary supplement products enriched of theanine for online sales, which are all expected to be beneficial for the prophylaxis and/or treatment of different brain dysfunctions, besides the sustained bench work with colleagues in domestic and foreign universities.

Maria A. Brito PhD (2001) in Pharmacy (Biochemistry), Universidade de Lisboa. Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Human Biology Brito has studied the mechanisms behind brain dysfunction in ageing and disease (e.g., jaundice, sepsis, Alzheimer’s, and brain metastasis), based on biochemical, morphological and structural analyses of rodents and humans samples, using in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo models. Studies pointed to the blood-brain barrier as a player in neuropathology, both as a source of biomarkers and as a target for modulation, and opened new avenues for the screening of drugs and promising natural compounds for permeation across the blood-brain interface.
