Microwave Components & RF Propagation This presentationcovers RF propagation concepts for the transmission of a microwave signal from one endpoint to another. The behavior of the signal is broken down into various concepts of path loss to include free space path loss, atmospheric absorption, diffraction, and refraction. The concepts of diffraction and refraction lead to the development of the parameters Fresnel Zone and K-factor, or effective earth radius factor. These are key components in the evaluation of microwave path clearance. These key concepts and parameters help to understand path design criteria and fading characteristics of microwave paths.
