Great Western War

It is with heavy hearts that we, Christian, Ismay, and Claudia, Stewards for Great Western War XXIII, announce the postponement of this year's event. It saddens us to have to make this decision, but with the uncertainty in the world today we feel it would not be fiscally, socially, or morally responsible to continue to plan an event that may never be able to come to fruition. As we mentioned in our last announcement we have consulted with many of our advisors and have weighed every option with .. continue reading regard to going forward with the war. The fact that there are still so many unknowns for the near future was the final deciding factor. To allow our volunteer co-stewards, who spend hours helping to orchestrate the event, to pour their valuable time into something that may not happen is not socially responsible. Finally, an event of this magnitude takes months of planning and there are many moving parts to make it come together. To lay out thousands of dollars for equipment, insurance, and labor when the chances of having permission to hold the event are slim, at best, is not fiscally responsible.

Exhibitor will showcase Major SCA war in Caid (Southern CA) for Fighting, Arts and Sciences, Shopping, and tons of Fun, Heavy Weapons (SCA Hard Suit) - fighting over several days: both large battles and tournaments; opportunities for archery and siege weapons, Rapier (SCA Fencing) - fighting over several days: both large battles and tournaments, Equestrian - activities over several days: games and challenges, staged castle siege, and other activities, Thrown Weapons (target only) - challenges and games, Archery - both Battle and Target scenarios over several days, Hound Coursing (dog courses), Youth Combat - activities over several days: games and challenges, Arts and Sciences - workshops and classes over several days: both hands-on and lecture series learning opportunities, including a track of classes especially for children and youths, Rustic Camping (bring your own tents and/or pavilions) - some shade and lots of grass, Shower Facilities - Shower trucks in more than one location on site, hot and cold water and even so much more.
