The BriGap-2 workshop, titled 'Bridges and Gaps between Formal and Computational Linguistics,' serves as a collaborative forum for linguists and NLP scientists to explore the interactions between their fields. This event is an essential part of the IWCS 2025 workshop series and aims to encourage a vibrant exchange of ideas

through an inclusive submission policy. The workshop invites a variety of contributions, including novel and unpublished research, work in progress, early results, and articles that have been presented at other venues but engage meaningfully with the workshop's themes.
In recent years, the focus of the NLP community has shifted towards engineering challenges due to significant technical advancements in the field, particularly in the era of large language models (LLMs). This shift raises critical questions about the separation of computational and formal linguistics. The workshop seeks to address the extent of this separation and explore potential avenues for collaboration between these traditionally distinct domains. By facilitating discussions among formal linguists, computational linguists, and NLP scientists, BriGap-2 aims to identify how these different research areas can build upon one another effectively.
Papers accepted for archival status will be indexed in the ACL Anthology, and there is a provision for camera-ready versions of submissions to include one additional page to accommodate reviewers' comments. The workshop encourages submissions to specify their archival or non-archival status, with short papers being allowed up to 5 pages and long papers up to 9 pages. The event is organized by Timothée Bernard from Université Paris Cité and Timothee Mickus from the University of Helsinki. The workshop is funded by a France-based research group dedicated to fostering collaboration among researchers in computational linguistics, formal linguistics, and field linguistics, emphasizing shared questions, data, and tools. The BriGap-2 workshop will take place in Düsseldorf, Germany, providing a platform for meaningful discourse on the intersections of linguistics and technology.
